Robert Lee Walker grew up in St. Louis and taught at John Burroughs School in Ladue from 1950 until his retirement in 1987. He earned a B.F.A. at Washington University School of Fine Arts and did graduate work at the Cransbrook Academy of Art from 1949 to 1950.
Walker created the whimsical bronze animals for the Kemper Center Gardens between early 1993 and 1995. Walker also executed the pediment panels for the Butterfly Pavilion and the medallion in the Blanke Boxwood Garden. His beautiful bronze "Birds in Flight" Waldemar Memorial Fountain was installed in the Lehmann Rose Garden in 1976.
