Bamberg County Courthouse, named for Gen. Francis Marion Bamberg, was formed in 1897. One of the first projects undertaken was the construction of a new courthouse and jail. The construction was financed by the City of Bamberg in return for the county seat being located here. Designed by architect L.F. Goodrich, the courthouse is built of red brick with solid masonry walls that measure two feet thick.
