Rochester in Oakland County, Michigan — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
1887-1897
1890 Charles A. Burr erected a two-story brick building on the southeast corner of Main and Fourth Streets that housed two businesses on the street level and an opera house on the upper floor. The First National Bank of Rochester and the drug store of John T. Norton were the original occupants of the lower level.
The opera house became the cultural and entertainment center of the village by hosting plays, concerts, dances, lectures and even school commencement exercises.
Although the business name was changed several times, the building has housed a pharmacy continuously since it opened in 1890. It has been the Lytle Pharmacy since 1976. In 1986-1987, the exterior was restored and the signature Richardson arches were rebuilt on the front elevation.
