Inscription. A Greenville native, Dr. David Sansing (1933-2019) served in the U.S. Army before beginning his teaching career in 1960. He served as a history professor on the faculty at Ole Miss from 1970 until his retirement in 1994 and was the author of several acclaimed historical publications, including The University of Mississippi: A Sesquicentennial History. An avid Ole Miss sports fan, Sansing pioneered tailgating in “The Circle” and was known as the “Emperor of the South Endzone.”
