1. The Western Huldah Gate Marker
Inscription. The western Huldah Gate was built in the Second Temple period as a double gate. Most of the gate is blocked today with only part of one of the arches still visible. The façade of the gate was decorated with floral and geometric motifs when it was rebuilt in the Umayyad period (7th-8th centuries CE). A Latin inscription was set into the masonry just above the lintel, in an inverted position. The inscription is from the reign of the Roman emperor Hadrian (2nd century CE).
