Inscription. Two ancient synagogues reside in this complex. Ha-Ari Synagogue, by tradition the birthplace in 1534 of Kabbalist Ha-Ari Ha-Kadosh, and Or Ha-Haim Synagogue, which is named for Rabbi Haim ben-Atar of Morocco, who founded Knesset Yisrael Yeshiva here (1742).
Both synagogues functioned until the War of Independence (1948). During the siege, the rooftop held a Haganah position. Today, the complex houses the Old Yishuv Court Museum and the Or Ha-Haim Synagogue and the Weingarten House.
