In 1891, the Imperial Russian Orthodox Palestine Society built a hostel for pilgrims. On the gate of the building you can see the name of its architect, Alexi Franghia.
The Yad Sarah organization operated out of the building from 1976 to 2000. The building was slated for demolition, but was saved thanks to a public battle waged by preservation groups.
