The 166,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art performing arts center opened in 2011 and features an acoustically tunable 1,700 seat performance hall, 180 seat flexible theatre, and academic lab and lecture spaces. The building incorporates reflective roof surfaces, state-of-the-art HVAC and lighting systems with full digital control, dual-glazed insulating windows, and computer-modeled building shading elements. The site features extensive drought-tolerant landscaping and over 150 trees to provide shading. These energy and water reduction features were instrumental in the project achieving LEED Gold certification.

The Milt and Debbie Valera Lobby
A transformative gift made by philanthropists Milt and Debbie Valera ensures that The Soraya will remain one of the nation's most beautiful performing arts venues. Milt, a CSUN alumnus, and Debbie recognize the uplifting impact of the performing arts on students and audiences of all ages from the San Fernando Valley and greater Los Angeles. Since its inception, The Soraya has benefited from their generosity and passionate volunteerism, and to honor that commitment, in 2020 The Soraya's main lobby was named The Milt and Debbie Valera Lobby.
