Town of Westford, Massachusetts Historic Marker

Construction of Westford's first meetinghouse was begun on this site in 1724. The Reveren! Willard Hall was called as the first minister in 1727. On September 23, 1729, with meetinghouse and minister in place, what had been known as the "West Precinct of Chelmsford" was incorporated as the Town of Westford. The original building was moved to South Chelmsford in 1770 and a new meetinghouse was built on this site. The second meetinghouse burned in December 1793. The current building was completed in 1794. Town meetings were held here until 1870.
