1. Eolia Mansion Marker
Built ca. 1904-1906 and designed in the Roman Rennaisance Revival style of architecture by the Lord and Hewlet architectural firm from New York, this structure was constructed from the newly fashionable building material, "concrete block". The blocks were faced with sand from the beach on Goshen Point which added to the exterior texture, making it look more rustic. The building has a Mansard roof, faced with Spanish tile, one enclosed loggia used as a breakfast room and an open loggia on the west side affording views of Long Island Sound.
The mansion was originally built for William and Jessie Taylor, sister and brother-in-law to Mary Stillman Harkness. The estate was later (1907) purchased by Edward Stephen and Mary Stillman Harkness. The interior was remodeled by James Gamble Rogers to reflect the more classical taste of the Harknesses.
