Jadwin Loop Village contains five Colonial-Revival multi-family dwellings on the South side of the loop that were originally built in 1939 to provide housing for 25 junior officers and their families. These are the only buildings of this type to be constructed a Fort Belvoir during this time period. Jadwin Loop Village was named to memorialize Maj. Gen. Edgar Jadwin, Chief of Engineers from June 1926 to August 1929. He graduated in 1890 from West Point first in class, served in the Spanish-American war, and assisted in the construction of the Panama Canal. He received the Distinguished Service Medal in world war one for his direction of American construction and forestry work in France. He retired as Lieutenant General on August 7, 1929, along with construction and forestry, he is also recognized for his lasting contributions to bridges, flood control, roads, and railroads.
