101 W. Chicago Rd., the oldest of downtown's buildings, included a grocery store, men's and boy's clothing store, Singer sewing center, floral shop, and custom framer. Sturgis Downtown Development Authority purchased the building as a dedicated cultural arts and educational center. Since April 2001, the Open Door Gallery has operated as an art cooperative for regional artists.
