1. St. Vincent de Paul Church and School Marker
Inscription. St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Mission and School was founded in 1932. The school was one of two Catholic institutions opened by St. Katharine Drexel in Nashville for Blacks and staffed with Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. St. Vincent became a parish in 1940. In 1942, the Franciscan Friars accepted leadership for the parish and school. The Sisters withdrew from the school in 1973. The school remained open under Principal Lucille Brandon, the first layperson in the Diocese of Nashville to direct a Catholic school. St. Vincent is Nashville's only remaining Catholic school established for Blacks.
