1. Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Marker

Inscription. In 1800, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church was organized on this site by settlers from North Carolina under the leadership of Pastor Marimon Landrum. It was one of the original churches in the county. The original log building with 12 corners for the 12 apostles, served for 67 years and was replaced by a frame structure. In 1832, the congregation split between Missionary and Primitive Baptists. Both worshipped here until the current auditorium was built in 1904. The cemetery contains the graves of many early settlers including the founding pastor and numerous Civil War veterans.
