Batesville in Independence County, Arkansas — The American South (West South Central)
Case Building
Built in 1877 in the brick commercial craftsman style with segmental arched windows and pressed tin lintel caps, this building originally housed the Boggs Grocery Store. However, it was best remembered as the home of the Menard Grocery, owned and operated for decades by W.B. "Chubby" Menard. For years it also hosted a barroom in the basement. More recently, it was known to local residents as Clark's Army-Navy Surplus. The building is still owned by Chubby's descendants.
