Inscription.
Ten Colonies were sent out from here by the First Church

Historical
1785 First Preaching in Cumberland Settlement by Thomas Craighead.
1798 Scotch Seceders formed congregation.
1801 Rev. William Hume placed in charge.
1812 First building commenced.
1814 Church organized with seven members.
1820 Mrs. Ann Grundy organized first Sunday School in Nashville.
1832 First building destroyed by fire.
1833 Second building built.
1848 Destroyed by fire.
1849-51 Present building completed.
1862-65 Building used as a hospital by Federal Forces.
1942-45 Over fourteen thousand soldiers cared for in Church lounge.
1955 The First Church relocated at Oak Hill Franklin Road.

Some members wishing to continue this building and its work downtown, purchased the property and organized
