Inscription. For over 25 years as Director of Athletics, Vince Dooley had an enduring impact on the University of Georgia, Southeastern Conference, and collegiate athletics across the country. He developed and led a sports program that produced 23 national team championships, 78 Southeastern Conference crowns, and Bulldog student-athletes won 98 individual national titles. He also placed great emphasis on academics, spearheading the funding and construction of the Rankin M. Smith, Sr., Student-Athlete Academic Center. During his tenure, over 100 UGA student-athletes earned Academic All-America honors and 45 won post-graduate scholarships. His leadership established the University of Georgia as one of the elite college all-sports organizations in the country.
