Inscription. In 1925 native Hoosier Hoagy Carmichael made his first recordings in Richmond for the Gennett label and first recorded his famous song “Stardust” for Gennett in 1927.

Besides "Stardust", he also composed "Georgia on My Mind" (lyrics: Stuart Gorrell), "The Nearness of You", and "Heart and Soul" (both in collaboration with lyricist Frank Loesser), four of the most-recorded American songs of all time.
