It is an etching of John Trumbull's 1819 painting Declaration of Independence, which depicts the five-man drafting committee presenting its work to the Second Continental Congress. The painting is on display in the Capitol Rotunda. It received minor damage, in the form of residue from pepper spray, tear gas and/or fire extinguishers, during the violent Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot.
