Raymer townsite purchased Feb. 8, 1888 - Emma Courtright - $187.09.
Sold Oct. 6, 1888 - $1000.00 Lincoln Land Co. 1st Election – Fall 1888.
1st Post Office – Sept. 28, 1888.
1st newspaper, Raymer Ranger – Mar. 15, 1888.
Spring 1889, 1st five lots sold.
Most everyone left by 1894. 2nd town revived 1909.
School built 1915. Inc. 1919.
Named for George Raymer – Railroad Engineer.
Pop. 1988 — 92.

Location. 40° 36.607′ N, 103° 50.624′ W. Marker is in Raymer, Colorado, in Weld County. Marker is at the intersection of Shirley Avenue and Baird Street, on the left when traveling south on Shirley Avenue. Marker is located near the southwest corner of Centennial Park. Touch for map. The community has two official names:
Raymer - The legal name of the incorporated Town of Raymer.
New Raymer - The official United States Postal Service designation.

for a while, but families eventually moved away and the Post Office closed on May 14, 1895. The town was given a second life when it was replatted in 1909. On November 13, 1909, the United States Post Office Department opened a new post office named New Raymer to distinguish it from the old Raymer post office. The town was incorporated in 1919 under its original name as the Town of Raymer. The State of Colorado uses the name Raymer for the town, but the United States Postal Service uses the name New Raymer (ZIP code 80742) and refuses to accept the name Raymer for postal delivery.
