From 1817-1844 the second floor served as the first home of the Masonic Lodge. It was also used for balls, other club meetings and by the Tippecanoe Club of 1840 (to elect William Henry Harrison President).
In the 1820's Colonel S.S. Scott operated the Commodore Perry Inn. Off and on over the course of history the three-story building has been used as a hotel (known as the Empire House) or as an apartment building.
