Upper Arlington in Franklin County, Ohio — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Robert S. Crane, Jr.
1922-1992
— Business Owner Philanthropist —
Bob grew up in Upper Arlington and was a proud graduate of the UA class of 1940 and OSU. In 1950 he joined his father in a fledgling business called Taytec which Bob and his brother, Jim, grew into Crane Plastics- a major Columbus-based company known worldwide for its leading innovations in the plastics industry and locally for its commitment to its employees, who received a portion of the company's annual earnings through profit sharing.
Bob felt honored to live and work in central Ohio, and he sought to give back by serving in leadership positions with United Way, First Community Church, Franklin University, Battelle Memorial Institute, the Paul Duke Foundation, the Ingram Foundation, and more. Bob believed he had a duty to share his good fortune and urged his business and community peers to do the same.
Bob was devoted to his family: wife Loann, and children Rob, Tom, Tanny and Jamie. He believed if a task was worth doing you should dedicate your all to it, and as a result, constructive competition formed the common theme of his life be it in the business world, when engaged in a community endeavor, or playing his beloved tennis in a local tournament.
