1. 216 Main Street Marker

Inscription. This 1897 (c) Italianate commercial building was built by Harvey Scranton Simon Beyener. Early in the 1900s it was the location of the Rising Sun Post Office and the Rising Sun Recorder Printing office. Documentation states that the United States Government once again leased the building as a post office from 1927-1947. In the 1950s and 60s the building was home to the Sunrise Department store. In recent years, it has served the community as an attorney’s office, Indiana Workforce Development office and as a retail commercial building.
