1. Walnut Street Theater Marker
Inscription. James B. Weddle built the Walnut Theater in 1925. Weddle and his son ran the theater until they sold it in 1978. The interior was remodeled after the 1937 flood to reflect the popular Art Deco style of the time. The large marquee was added in 1938. Where the North Begins was the theater's first movie.

Regarding Walnut Street Theater. The single-screen theater stopped showing movies in 2009. A non-profit organization bought the theater in early 2023 and hopes to repair, renovate and restore it into a community performing-arts venue. The new owners are aiming for a 2025 grand opening to coincide with the centennial of the theater's original debut on Jan. 28, 1925.
