Old Buggy Factory
125 Walnut Street
This Italianate building constructed in 1885 was originally a buggy and carriage factory for Helfer and Woodward. The carriages were sold mostly in the South. Lewis Adler bought the building in 1861. Adler remodeled the first floor to create an attractive space for a dry goods store. He installed large windows, a counter with cushioned stools and gas lights.
