William Jennings Bryan
1860 - 1925
Attorney, Politician, Orator,
Three-Time Presidential Nominee

The Chautauqua movement of the early 20th century brought internationally known figures to rural America. One such notable at Cameron’s 1922 Chautauqua was William Jennings Bryan, who spoke on this site. The Cameron Sun newspaper exclaimed, “America's foremost orator William Jennings Bryan still stands at the head of American speakers in spite of all his political vicissitudes, and it, therefore, is assured that a monster audience will greet him on his appearance at the Cameron Chautauqua. Arrangements are being made by college Pres. Harmon to broadcast Mr. Bryan's address titled ‘The World's Greatest Need’ and other Chautauqua numbers from the Missouri Wesleyan sending station.”
