(English translation:)
During the Second World War, a food warehouse annex house belonging to Gerrit van 't Eind stood on this spot. From there he helped prisoners in Kamp Amersfoort to eat. His son Rinus was active in the student resistance in Utrecht, from where he was engaged in intelligence work. He passed this information on to the American and British liberators via an illegal telephone exchange.
On April 18, 1945 - three weeks before the liberation - father Gerrit and son Rinus were arrested by the Nazis. In a villa on the Laan 1914 they were severely beaten and then shot five days later. Their family members are scarred for life by this.
These heroes inspire us. They paid the highest price for our freedom. Gerrit and Rinus live on in our memories. Freedom is not self-evident; for Freedom it takes Courage.
