1. Jean-Daniel Morerod House – 1817 Marker
Inscription. Built in 1817. One of the founders of Vevay, Morerod owned large vineyards and was widely known for his wine and hospitality. Famous guests included Henry Clay and Jonathan Jennings, Indiana Governor.

Morerod was among 17 Swiss, led by John James DuFour, who emigrated from their Swiss village to this area in 1801. He married Antoinette DuFour, John James' sister, two years later. Morerod was a vine dresser and also made fruit brandy using a copper still.
