Inscription. To those who grew up in Upper Arlington in the 1960's, Marv Moorehead was more than a football coach. He was committed to teaching life lessons to young adults. This principle became the foundation for all of his efforts. He believed that if he developed the good disciplined character of each player, success on and off the athletic field would follow. As Upper Arlington's high school football coach from 1955 to 1989, he achieved a sterling record of 118 wins, 23 losses and 3 ties. The gathering of 3 state championships, 8 league championships and 6 undefeated seasons lead him to be known as "Marvelous Marv." Former players that he coached believe it was his commitment to family, religion, school and then football that earned him the distinguished title of "Papa Bear."
