oral tradition, it was built about 1860. In 1868 David L. Wingard bought the house and moved into it in 1870. Wingard moved to Kansas in 1872, probably as a result of filing for bankruptcy. After several lawsuits, the house was acquired by George W. Leatherman in 1879. Leatherman was a trustee of Jeffersontown in 1889 and had been postmaster in 1841. Leatherman owned the house until 1896 and the name has remained with the house.
