1. James Turrell Miller Marker
Inscription.
To commemorate the centennial celebration of Upper Arlington's early beginnings, the Upper Arlington Historical Society and city of Upper Arlington are proud to induct James Turrell Miller on to the Wall of Honor.

JT Miller and the Miller family were instrumental in the founding of Upper Arlington. In 1913, JT's sale of 840 acres of his farm to Ben and King Thompson marked the beginnings of Upper Arlington. He was also Upper Arlington's first mayor from 1918-1919. Miller Park and the Miller Park Branch Library are both named for JT Miller and his family.

In 1869, JT married Esther Everitt whose father owned land near McCoy Road. They were the parents of six daughters (affectionately termed "the aunties") and two sons. The Miller family home eventually grew to 22 rooms, hosting many friends, family and the occasional famous folk who visited Columbus, including former president Warren G. Harding and Wild West sharpshooter Annie Oakley.

JT Miller embodied many of the traits that are still alive in Upper Arlington today: community involvement, a forward-thinking mindset and a commitment to family.
