Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada, George received his first piano teaching degree at the age of 13 from the University of Toronto and went on to graduate from the Royal College of Music at the University of Toronto. He continued his studies at the Julliard School of Music and the Paris Conservatory. His pedagogical lineage was four generations from Beethoven. George was an internationally renowned pianist who performed with major orchestras around the world. He dedicated much of his career to the Ohio State University where he was artist-in-residence and professor emeritus.
In 1957 George and his wife Lilyan came to Upper Arlington to raise their family. He served several terms as a cultural arts commissioner and donated his talents to the lifelong learning program, the Upper Arlington schools and the civic orchestra. He was the recipient of many community awards and honors.
In his personal life, George was inspirational with his dedication to his wife, daughters, grandsons and sons-in-law. He was full of wonder and curiosity with a unique sense of humor, boundless energy and a sincere interest in everyone he met. He was a mentor and role model, with a contagious love of life, who never retired from learning. He left a legacy of enthusiasm for all aspects of life, dedication to music and its power to inspire, and service to the community he loved.
George did everything in his life with depth and soul and joy, and most of all with love.
