Inscription. This owner-driver's popular Winston Cup title in 1992 prompted many drivers to field their own teams. The mechanical engineering graduate recorded two of his five career triumphs at Bristol. He died in a plane crash April 1, 1993, en route to Bristol to defend his '92 Food City 500 victory.
