Constructed as the National Bank of White River Junction. The frieze of this Richardson Romanesque style corner building is punctuated by a line of recessed bull's eyes. A small wooden structure, erected by the bank on the adjacent Gates Street lot three years later, was replaced in 1915 with a three story brick edifice. The two buildings were connected in 1956, thus doubling the size of the financial institution.

Access to the abutting South Main Street structure, originally the Hartford Savings Bank and Trust Company, was gained decades later. This building was designed and built, in 1912, by Boston-trained local architect, Louis Sheldon Newton.
