Inscription. One of the first erected after Old Main, Buchanan Hall was among the prettiest buildings on campus while it stood. It was built as a men's residential hall and occupied by early 1888.

It was named for John L. Buchanan, the sixth president of the university, and stood near the southeast corner of present-day Mullins Library. Known as "Buck Hall" by its residents, Buchanan's name later was memorialized in the name of Buchanan-Droke residential hall.

(Caption) Buchanan Hall was razed in 1937 when Razorback Hall (later called Gibson Hall) was built nearby.
