1. The Old Rasmussen Store Marker
Inscription. Heber A. Smith built this brick building circa 1890-1895 which served as one of the first three school houses in Draper, having one large room upstairs and two in the basement. Later is was used as a pool hall known as Poolies. In 1923 E. Miller Rasmussen acquired the building and converted it into a grocery store and soda fountain with gasoline pumps outside. It became a popular local gathering place, well known for its delicious hamburgers and homemade ice cream. Between 1933-35 a large addition was built on the northside which doubled its size. In 1952 Weldon (Sonne) Rasmussen acquired the building and changed the name to Sonne's Market. He filled in the basement due to water problems and added a new store front. Sonne's Market was open until 1966. In 1986 the building was acquired by Ingemann and Clint Bendtsen and was remodeled at that time and they are the current occupants making and selling footwear and leather goods.
