1. Founding of Hohenwald Marker
Inscription. Hohenwald was founded by German immigrants on land granted by the State of Tennessee to members of the Cheatham family. Warren Smith and Byron Smith, mineral, sawmill and land speculators, purchased the land and moved with a small group to build the new town. Augusta Graffameyer Smith, wife of Warren Smith, named the town Hohenwald.
