of the first marked burial. The early Methodist Church was founded in Elm Springs in 1832 and many of the founding church members are buried in the historic Section. The first Methodist Church building was built in 1850 and was located adjacent to where the cemetery is located. Therefore, many unmarked burials or burials simply marked with fieldstones may be earlier than 1852.
