1. The Walters Building Marker
Inscription. It was constructed in 1912. It originally housed Walter's Dry Goods on the ground level & Fountaine Hall located upstairs. The Hall hosted the Masons and also a play house of questionable character. The building is located on what is known as “dead man's corner” as at least 2 fatal gunfights occurred here. The apparel, jewelry & cosmetics business was founded in 1867 in Woolum (Searcy County) & moved to Bellefonte in 1897 & eventually to Harrison. An ad from a 1936 newspaper reads “If it is new you will find it at Walters. Remember when you need good merchandise at prices you like to pay try this old firm.”
