A moción del alcalde de esta ciudad L. Yordán Dávila en noviembre 21-1916 el concejo municipal acordó por unanimidad levantar este monumento para perpetuar la memoria del ilustre patricio del ilustre patricio Luis Muñoz Rivera, por suscripción popular.

Los datos históricos que se relacionan con este monumento se encuentran en el archivo municipal de esta ciudad, en el ateneo de San-Juan, P.R. y en la Casa Natal del Procer en Barranquitas.

El derecho, la libertad y la dignitad, per encima de todas las cosas.

[English translation:]
On the motion of the Mayor of Ponce, L. Yordán Dávila on November 21, 1916, the municipal council unanimously agreed to perpetuate the memory of the illustrious patrician Luis Muñoz Rivera by popular subscription.
