was the product of investment by George L. Inman, "a business man of power and influence in Champaign County," who worked in the real estate and farm mortgage business. A man of insight, Mr. Inman saw the need for up-to-date accommodations in a community which had great growth potential due to its attractive business and educational centers. In response to this need Mr. Inman hired local firms including architects, plumbers, electricians, decorators, heating companies and others to create a first-class hotel facility. Over $200,000 was invested in the construction of the Inman. Mr. Inman had private rooms built into the design of the hotel on the second floor for his family's use.

The Inman continued in use as a hotel operation until 1974. A prominent local television station, WICD, had its studios in the hotel from 1965 through 1978. In 1975 the building was purchased and renovated for use by the National Academy of the Arts, a high school for talented students of dance and music. The Academy sold the building in 1987.
