oldest building on the campus of the University of Illinois, is associated with the founding of the University. As part of the University's early agricultural curriculum, the Farm House was conceived and designed as a model farmhouse on the Experimental farm. The Farm House has strong ties to two important administrators who played key roles in the establishment of the University, John Milton Gregory (1822-1898) and Thomas Jonathan Burrill (1839-1916).

The farmhouse was later named for former Dean of Agriculture Herbert W. Mumford.
