Nacio en Guayama, Puerto Rico, el 5 de agosto de 1937. Fueron sus padres, Flor Colon, lider civico de Guayama y Doña Ramona Mendoza tambien lider de la comunidad y presidio su partido en la comunidad Puente de Jobos, Ambos Fellecidos.

Gui" Colon, como todos le llamaban carinosamente, contrajo matrimonio con la Sra. Sonia Rivera. Le sobreviven sus hijos Frances Glenda, Sandra, Ivette, Hector Luis, Judith y Hector Alexis.

Sirvio a la guardia nacional de Puerto Rico y al ejercito regular de los Estados Unidos; del cual se licencio en el año 1958 con el Rango de Sargento.

Curso sus estudios en la Universidad CAtolica, obteniendo el grado de bachillerato en educacion con especialidad en matematicas. Fe educador en varias escuelas públicas de Guayama y Ponce. Se retira del magisterio para dedicarse al comercio trabajando para una compania en propaganda y ventas, posteriormente decide trabajar por cuenta propia y establece un puesto de gasolina y un restaurante anexo al negocio en su comunidad Puente de Jobos de Guayama.

Como lider civico y cultural fue precursor del carnaval guanina de la comunidad

Puente de Jobos, fue presidente, por muchas años del centro cultural Luis Pales Matos de Guayama, ideador y promotor de la zona turistica guyamesa y aliado de los artesanos de todo Puerto Rico.

"Güi" entra la politica activa en el año 1979. Su primera experiencia fue ser electo a la asamblea municipal de Guayama en el 1980.

En las elecciones de Noviembre de 1984, es elegido Alcalde y toma posesion del cargo del día 13 de enero de 1984 cargo que desempeño por espacio de veinticuarto (24) años. Su legado politico como alcalde deja una hualla imperecedera en obras como el centro de convenciones, el complejo deportivo, centro de bellas artes y la casa Luis Pales Matos, entre otras.

Hector Luis Colon Mendoza "Güi" fallecio el 26 de septiembre de 2018 en Guayama, Puerto Rico.

La ley de municipios autonomos, ley numero 81-1991, segun enmendada, articulo 2,000 (K), permite que ciudadanos como el ex alcalde Hector Luis "Güi" Colon Mendoza sean reconocidos y recordados por uss aportaciones y transcendia.

Siendo la Casa Alcaldia, el lugar en donde ejercio su liderazgo, inteligencia y quehacer profesional por los ultimos veinticuarto (24) años y donde ideo el desarrollo impactante de Guayama al final del siglo XX y al comienzo de este siglo XXI. Esta administracion Otorgaesta Merecida Distincion.

2. La Casa Alcaldia de Guayama [Guyama City Hall]
was born in Guayama, Puerto Rico, on August 5, 1937. His parents were Flor Colon, a civic leader in Guayama, and Ms. Ramona Mendoza, also a community leader and presided over his party in the Puente de Jobos community, both happily.

"Güi" Colon, as everyone affectionately called him, married Mrs. Sonia Rivera. They had children: Frances Glenda, Sandra, Ivette, Hector Luis, Judith and Hector Alexis.

He served in the Puerto Rico National Guard and the United States Army from which he was honorably discharged in 1958 as a sergeant.

He studied at the Catholic University, obtaining a bachelor's degree in education with a specialty in mathematics. He was an educator in various public schools in Guayama and Ponce. He retires from teaching to dedicate himself to commerce working for a company in advertising and sales, later he became an entrepreneur and established a gas station and a restaurant attached to the business in his Puente de Jobos de Guayama community.

As a civic and cultural leader, he was a precursor of the Guanina carnival of the Puente de Jobos community, he was president for many years of the Luis Pales Matos Cultural Center in Guayama, creator and promoter of the Guyanese tourist area and an ally of artisans from all over Puerto Rico.

the Guayama Municipal Assembly in 1980.

In November 1984, he was elected Mayor and took office on January 13, 1984, a position that he held for twenty-four (24) years. His political legacy as mayor left an enduring imprint with works such as the convention center, the sports complex, the fine arts center, and the Luis Pales Matos House, among others.

Hector Luis Colon Mendoza "Güi" passed away on September 26, 2018 in Guayama, Puerto Rico.

The Autonomous Municipalities Law, Law number 81-1991, as amended, article 2,000 (K), allows citizens like Former Mayor Hector Luis "Güi" Colon Mendoza to be recognized and remembered for their significant contributions.

This is City Hall, where he exercised his leadership, intelligence and professional work for twenty-four (24) years and where he devised the served Guayama and its development at the end of the 20th century and at the beginning of this 21st century. This administration grants this well-deserved distinction.
