El barrio Lomas lo vio nacer y crecer firmo con los Gigantes de San Francisco como lanzador en el 1957. Jugo con Medias Rojas de Boston cosechando la liga en juegos ganados y perdidos. Ese aρo fue seleccionado para abrir la Serie Mundial.

[English translation:]
He was born and raised in the Lomas neighborhood. He signed with the San Francisco Giants as a pitcher in 1957. He played with the Boston Red Sox, leading the league in games won and lost. That year, he was selected to start the World Series.
