Milito como novato con el equipo de campeon de Puerto Rico Doble A de 1956, Poetas de Juana Díaz. Ese mismo año hace la seleccion nacional juvenil, lanzo contra los norteamericanos ganando ese juego propinando 16 ponches.
He played as a rookie with the 1956 Double A Puerto Rican champion team, Las Poetas of Juana Díaz. That same year he made the youth national team and pitched against the North Americans, winning that game with 16 strikeouts.
