Lange Voorhout 48
There were originally several houses on this site. Marijtgen Duijnmeijers was the oldest known owner in 1541. In 1591 skipper Jan Cornelisz Speck became owner, and then Josina de Bye, Lady of Valckenburgh in 1632. Lodewijk Rengers, chamberlain of the Princess of Orange, council to admiralty in Amsterdam, Frisian deputy to the States General, lived here from 1782. In 1846 owned by Lord Willem Boreel, Lord of Hogelanden, 9th Baronet, King's Commissioner in North Holland, and Minister of State. In 1914, Charlotte Dorothιe baroness van Pallandt lived here, who set up her first drawing studio in the attic as a 16-year-old. Another resident was Lady Cornelie Marie Boreel, married to Frederic Willem baron van Tuyll van Serooskerken, Grand Mistress of Queen Wilhelmina and Queen Juliana. The last resident was their daughter Marie Cornιlie Baroness van Tuyll van Serooskerken, Lady-in-Waiting to Queen Wilhelmina, married to Lord John Hugo Loudon, director-general NV Koninklijke Nederlandse Petroleum Mij (Shell). Since 1966, the Johanniter Order in the Netherlands has been headquartered here.
