Monumento al Soldado Caído
[Fallen Soldier Memorial]
Este monumento se diseñó para honrar a los fallecidos en tiempos de guerra y con el objetivo de que familiares y amigos puedan tener un lugar digno donde honrar a sus seres queridos. Originalmente, en enero de 1957, su concepto era para recordan los soldads peñolanos caídos en el conflicto de Korea. En junio de 1959 se cedió al comité pro monumento soldados caídos, y por iniciativa de Don Marcelo Arroyo se ubicó en la plaza de recreo. En enero de 1961 el Municipio de Peñuelas se transfiere los fondos asignados a dicho monumento al instituto de cultura puertorrequeña, quien finalmente desarrolla la construcción de dicha escultura, la cual de develó en el 1961 con la participación del pueblo, en la plaza de recreo de Peñuelas. El diseño y escultura del monumento lo hizo el escultor puertorrequeño Don Tomás Batista Encarnación.
This memorial was designed to honor those who died in times of war and with the aim that family and friends can have somewhere to honor their loved ones. In January 1957, its concept was to remember the Peñuelan soldiers who fell in the Korean conflict. In June 1959, it was ceded to the Committee for the Memorial to Fallen Soldiers, and at the initiative of Marcelo Arroyo it was located in the recreation square. In January 1961, the Municipality of Peñuelas transferred the funds assigned to said monument to the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, which finally designed and constructed said sculpture, which was unveiled in 1961 with the participation of the people in the recreational square of Peñuelas. The design and sculpture of the monument was made by the Puerto Rican sculptor Don Tomás Batista Encarnación.
