The Yorkster. By Robert Machovec, Glen Rock, PA. Robert Machovec has been a metal artist and fabricator since the age of 17. He began his career constructing and installing fire escapes, ornamental gates, and staircases in and around Baltimore. Over the past 30 years he has worked with interior designers and architects. During that time, he also developed a passion for found object artwork/sculpture. Some of his notable pieces in York are a large lion sculpture on the campus of Penn State York and a large cat for the Bradley Academy, recently restored and added to his other sculptures in the Codorus Park Gear Garden. Robert resides with his wife, Shirley in New Freedom. Machovec Metalworks in Glen Rock, his place of business for 20 years, continues under the craftsmanship of his son. , The “Yorkster” was envisioned to represent a booming economic and industrious time in York around circa 1925. It is a fantastical found object piece meant to portray a motorbike that would have been created by Machovec during that time.
