Inscription. From its founding in 1870 until 1893, the community of Riverside was a part of San Bernardino County. Riverside citizens, in 1887 and in 1891 indicated their interest in moving the county seat by helping to defeat bond issues for the construction of a new county courthouse in San Bernardino. A bond issue for courthouse construction in young Riverside County succeeded, however, resulting in this magnificent example of Beaux Arts architecture.

Erected by Cultural Heritage Board Landmark, City of Riverside. (Marker Number 2.)
