Inscription. The Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM), designated the AGM-86B, is a highly capable weapon launched from the B-52. The 416th was the first USAF wing to achieve operational capability with the ALCM in December 1982. The missile is built by Boeing Aerospace.

The B-52G can carry 12 ALCMs on external pylons with the wings, tail surfaces, and engine intake folded. It is displayed here as it appears after launch on its long range, high subsonic speed cruise to an assigned target. By flying at low altitude and navigating with precise terrain correlation updates, the missile can destroy targets at great distance with a high degree of success and pinpoint accuracy. The ALCM is a precision, stand-off weapon allowing the B-52 launch platform to attach highly defended targets while minimizing the aircrew's exposure to hostile threats.
